If raw performance is your top priority, this is the gaming laptop to beat. However, if you can find last year's model at a significant discount, it's still the better value.
The Lenovo Legion Pro 7i topped our 3DMark Time Spy testing, outperforming every gaming laptop we tested, including Lenovo's previous-generation Legion 9i and other RTX 5090-equipped competitors.
Across synthetic benchmarks including 3DMark Time Spy, Steel Nomad Light, and Port Royal, it consistently finished ahead of every other 2026 gaming laptop in our testing. Even Lenovo's previous flagship Legion 9i couldn't keep up.
Real-world gaming is just as impressive. Cyberpunk 2077 averaged 145 FPS on Ultra settings without Frame Generation, while Forza Horizon 6 delivered 127 FPS with maximum settings. Competitive titles perform even better, with Counter-Strike 2 exceeding 330 FPS and Marvel Rivals comfortably making full use of the laptop's 240Hz display.
Heat and Fan Noise
Lenovo continues to direct heat toward the rear of the chassis, keeping the keyboard and palm rests cool even during demanding games. Unlike some competitors, very little heat reaches the WASD keys or your mouse hand.
Fan noise is still noticeable under load, but it's quieter than many competing gaming laptops. Switching to Balance mode reduces noise further, although performance also drops.
Display and Keyboard
Its 16-inch OLED display combines vibrant colors, excellent accuracy, and a 240Hz refresh rate that looks fantastic in both AAA and competitive games.
Lenovo's keyboard remains one of the best available on a gaming laptop. Key travel is excellent, typing feels satisfying, and per-key RGB lighting allows extensive customization. Additional lighting around the vents, front light bar, and lid logo can be enabled or disabled depending on your preference.
The Legion Pro 7i isn't just a gaming machine.
It performed exceptionally well in creative applications like Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, and Blender, frequently matching or outperforming competing Windows gaming laptops. Apple's MacBook Pro still holds an advantage in some video editing workflows, but Lenovo closes the gap and even takes the lead in several GPU-accelerated tasks.
CPU performance is equally impressive. Intel's latest Arrow Lake HX processor makes this the fastest Windows laptop we've tested in Geekbench, although Apple's M5 chips remain significantly more power efficient.
Battery Life
Like most gaming laptops, the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i experiences a noticeable drop in CPU performance on battery power, making it best suited for demanding workloads while plugged in.
In our office productivity test, the Legion Pro 7i lasted around 5.5 hours with the dedicated GPU disabled. That's an improvement over the previous generation, but still well behind thinner gaming laptops built around Intel's more efficient Panther Lake processors.
Like most gaming laptops, performance is heavily reduced when running on battery power, so you'll want to stay plugged in for demanding workloads.
Build Quality and Upgradeability
The Legion Pro 7i offers plenty of flexibility for future upgrades.
Both memory slots, storage drives, the Wi-Fi card, and the battery are user-replaceable, making upgrades and repairs straightforward.
Build quality, however, doesn't feel quite as premium as some similarly priced competitors. The keyboard deck is solid, but the display lid has noticeable flex, and the dark finish is prone to fingerprints. We also wish Lenovo had softened the front edge of the chassis, which can feel uncomfortable during longer sessions.
Ports and Connectivity
Port selection covers most gaming needs, but there are a few disappointments.
The biggest issue is port placement. Most connectors sit well forward on the sides of the laptop, leaving cables more likely to interfere with your workspace.
At this price, we also expected Thunderbolt 5, but Lenovo continues to offer Thunderbolt 4 instead.
Final Thoughts
The Lenovo Legion Pro 7i is the fastest gaming laptop we've tested. It delivers class-leading gaming performance, excellent cooling, a stunning 240Hz OLED display, and one of the best keyboards you'll find on any gaming laptop.
Its shortcomings are largely unchanged from the previous generation. The chassis doesn't feel as premium as some competitors, battery life is only average, and the port layout could be better. Fortunately, none of these issues detract much from the overall gaming experience.
If you want the best gaming performance available today, the Legion Pro 7i is an easy recommendation. However, this year's upgrades are relatively minor, so if you can find last year's Legion Pro 7i for around $300 less, it's still the better value.
