ORIGIN PC EON15-S: The Gaming Laptop We Almost Missed
The ORIGIN PC EON15-S might be one of the most interesting portable gaming laptops we’ve tested.

It weighs just 3.5 pounds, which is lighter than the smaller Zephyrus G14, yet packs an Intel Core Ultra 7 Series 3 processor, an RTX 5070 with 12GB of VRAM, 32GB of upgradeable memory, and a beautiful OLED display. At around $2,500 when we tested it, it also included a Corsair wireless mouse, gaming headset, and keyboard.
It isn’t perfect. Build quality isn’t as premium as something like the Legion 7, battery life is limited, and the speakers are terrible. But if you want a lightweight laptop that can still comfortably play modern AAA games and handle serious creative work, the EON15-S gets a lot right.
The EON15-S lets its RTX 5070 run at its full 115W power limit, and performance is impressive for such a lightweight laptop. In synthetic benchmarks like Time Spy, Steel Nomad, and Port Royal, it can keep up with the thicker and heavier Legion 5i.
In demanding games like Cyberpunk, it falls slightly behind thicker gaming laptops. However, the 12GB of VRAM becomes a major advantage in games that need more than 8GB. At the laptop’s native 2560x1600 resolution, Forza Horizon 6 performed significantly better than laptops using an 8GB GPU. Overall, there’s enough performance here to comfortably play modern AAA games, although you may need to lower settings if you’re chasing particularly high frame rates.
Even in its highest performance mode, the keyboard deck and palm rest stayed below 40°C in our testing. The EON15-S is also one of the quieter gaming laptops we’ve tested, despite its GPU being capable of running at full power. In Cyberpunk, for example, the GPU averaged around 110W out of its 115W maximum.
Light use is a different story. Even in Silent mode, the fans still turn on and off periodically. They aren’t particularly loud or high-pitched, but the constant cycling could become annoying in a quiet room. If you want a gaming laptop that stays completely silent during everyday tasks, this isn’t it.
The EON15-S also impressed us with its video editing performance. In the standard Puget Resolve benchmark, it was neck and neck with the similarly priced MacBook Pro 14 with an M5 Pro chip. In Premiere Pro, it fell slightly behind the MacBook but was still one of the strongest RTX 5070 laptops we tested.
Our real-world testing was even more impressive. The EON15-S had zero dropped frames playing one of our Premiere Pro projects at half resolution, beating the M5 Pro MacBook Pro 14. It also slightly beat the MacBook when exporting one of our videos. Given how well Apple Silicon typically performs in video editing, that’s an excellent result.
The keyboard is fine, but it’s not one of the EON15-S’s highlights. It has a standard layout, reasonably large arrow keys, and even fits in a number pad. The individual keys are fairly small, though, so they take some getting used to and don’t feel as precise as a more premium laptop like the Legion 7. You also get subtle single-zone RGB that provides enough illumination at night without excessive light bleed.
The massive trackpad feels surprisingly good for a mechanical design, with smooth tracking and a precise click. Unfortunately, we experienced some palm rejection issues. Since the keyboard is shifted left to accommodate the number pad, our right wrist frequently touched the trackpad while typing.
Port selection is solid, and we particularly like that many connections are located on the back, keeping cables out of the way. You get Ethernet, HDMI 2.1, two USB-C ports, two USB-A ports, a headphone and microphone combo jack, a Kensington lock slot, and the barrel connector for the 230W power adapter. Speeds are less impressive, with USB-A limited to 5Gbps, Ethernet to 1Gbps, and USB-C to 10Gbps. Only one USB-C port supports charging, and both route through the integrated GPU, while HDMI connects directly to the NVIDIA GPU.
Upgradeability is a much bigger win. The memory can be upgraded, and there are two SSD slots, one full-size and one shorter slot. The battery and Wi-Fi card are also replaceable. Better yet, ORIGIN includes a proper Wi-Fi 7 card with support for the newer 320MHz channels, something many laptops still lack.
The OLED display looks excellent, reaching around 435 nits, but its glossy finish can make reflections distracting in brighter environments. There’s no G-Sync or Advanced Optimus, although you do get a MUX switch and can disable the dedicated GPU without restarting.
Unfortunately, the small 61Wh battery limits the benefit. Even with the efficient processor and dedicated GPU disabled, battery life isn’t particularly impressive.
Getting a 15-inch gaming laptop down to 3.5 pounds requires some compromises. The EON15-S doesn’t feel as premium as the Legion 7, with some flex in the keyboard deck and display lid, but we think that’s a reasonable tradeoff for the portability.
The speakers are terrible, so you’ll want to use headphones. Hot air also exhausts from the rear and sides, but most of the side exhaust is on the left, so it wasn’t a major issue for right-handed mouse use.
We also installed and fully updated Ubuntu 26.04. The trackpad, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and keyboard brightness controls worked correctly.
Screen brightness controls and the webcam did not work in our testing, so Linux support isn't complete.
The EON15-S is an excellent option for students, creators, and gamers who want serious performance in a portable package. At just 3.5 pounds, it combines a full-powered RTX 5070 with 12GB of VRAM, strong gaming performance, and surprisingly capable video editing performance.
If you want better build quality or quieter light use, consider the Legion 7. For something cheaper, the Gigabyte Aero X16 delivers a similar slim gaming experience with some compromises. At around $2,500 with the included Corsair accessories, the EON15-S is a compelling option for anyone who prioritizes portability without sacrificing gaming performance.
