Stays very cool during performance tasks and gaming use
Upgradeable memory and storage
Excelllent bright and vivid mini-LED display
Surprisingly light and compact for an 18inch gaming laptop
Extremely powerful
A small amount of coil whine
Substantial fan noise for any performance tasks. Fans are audible on all modes
Mini-LED displays have some slight ghosting. If this bothers you get the IPS model
We love the Strix Scar 18. It is a powerful 18-inch gaming laptop that remains comfortably cool to the touch under any use case. The laptop is quite portable and is lighter than you would expect, tying the Razer Blade 18 in terms of portability. It also has a bright and vivid Mini-LED display that is a joy to look at. The keyboard, while not a mechanical one, is comfortable to type on. It has a soft touch feel to the keys and keypresses are quiet which makes it suitable for those who want a quieter typing experience. The only issue with this laptop is its fan noise. It’s not terrible by any means, but in light use the fan is audible even while on Silent Mode. And when doing high-performance tasks, the fans are more audible than competing laptops because they have a higher-pitched sound.
